Letter of Intent Submission
Eligibility
ENTELLIGENCE is a program for basic science, translational, and/or clinical research in the field of cardiopulmonary medicine. The ENTELLIGENCE program provides opportunities for individual young investigators to promote quality medical care and enhance patients' lives by supporting research (basic science, clinical, or translational) in the area of pulmonary hypertension (PH) related to expanding our knowledge of the pathways involved in pulmonary vascular pathobiology.
Eligible principal investigators must
- Be a United States (US) citizen, a permanent US resident, a Canadian citizen, or permanent Canadian resident. Applicants with temporary nonimmigrant visas are not eligible to apply
- Be engaged principally in basic science, translation, and/or clinical research aimed at understanding the pathways and pathophysiology of pulmonary vascular disease, and have a career interest in pulmonary vascular disease research
- Have experience in the proposed research field
- Have no more than 5 years of experience beyond his/her most recent and highest level of training (eg, fellowship) at the start of the award (as of July 1st of the award year)
- Applicants must have completed their primary research training (PhD or sub-specialty fellowship training) by July 1st of the award year and have a firm commitment from their home institution for a faculty position. Applicants can be a junior faculty member (up to and including the rank of Assistant Professor), postdoctoral student, doctoral candidate, or fellow
- Not be an employee of a commercial entity (eg, pharmaceutical company)
- Submit only one ENTELLIGENCE research proposal per application round
- Past winners will not be allowed to submit another LOI during the subsequent award cycle
- The awardee must be able to receive the award directly in his/her name
Mentors must ensure the means for adequate funding to support the research and must see the project through to successful completion. Principal investigators must be given protected time to complete their research, and this research should be carriedd out mainly by the awardee; mentors should have only an advisory role in the project. Co-investigators are not prohibited, however the specific role of the co-investigator and justification for their participation will be evaluated.
Grant funds cannot be awarded to principal investigators whose salaries are largely derived from commercial organizations in the pharmaceutical or allied industries.
Research projects must be carried out at an academic institution or research institute. Submissions from the United States or Canada are accepted.
Grant funds will always follow the principal investigator, in the event that he or she must change the institution, provided he or she can convince the ENTELLIGENCE Steering Committee that the project can be pursued as planned (including the fulfillment of all contracts with the sponsoring institution).
Procedure
The LOI must state the relevance of the application to pulmonary vascular disease.
The following information must be included in the LOI submission:
- Project title and research focus
- Contact details and biographical sketch for the principal investigator, the mentor, and the co-investigators (if applicable). No more than 4 pages per biographical sketch.
- Institution and geographic location where the project will be conducted
