Where does the ENTELLIGENCE Young Investigators Award Program get its grant funding?
ENTELLIGENCE was established by Actelion Pharmaceuticals US, Inc. in 2005. For 2010, Actelion is committed to providing the initial funding of $500,000 for 5 competitive grants of $100,000 each.
How do I begin the submission process?
Initially applicants should complete the Letter of Intent (LOI) form and submit the application with complete contact information through the online interface. The LOI submission deadline is December 1, 2009. Applications will not be considered if they are late, incomplete, or submitted by any means other than the provided Web site form. Can I return to the LOI form and/or Grant proposal on the Web site to make changes before official submission?
The LOI can be edited up until the LOI submission deadline, December 1, 2009. The Grant proposal can be edited until the Grant Submission deadline, February 19, 2010.
How and when will I hear if my LOI was accepted?
After the LOI review ends, sometime during the week of January 4, 2010, LOI applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email. Accepted applicants will be sent an invitation to submit a full grant proposal within 6 weeks of notification. The email will provide detailed instructions for the grant proposal submission, as well as information on grant award agreements. LOI applicants not selected will be notified via email accordingly.
Am I required to use a template for the grant proposal and budget?
Yes. Applicants should download the Grant Submission Form and the Budget/Budget Justifcation Form to their computer for completion. All completed applications must be uploaded to the gran application on the the www.ENTELLIGENCEMD.org Web site and submitted in PDF format along with the documentation specified. If my LOI is accepted, what is the official deadline for final grant submission?
The final proposal must be submitted by 11:59 pm on February 19, 2010.
How can I expect to hear whether my grant proposal will be funded?
Applicants selected by the Steering Committee and those whose projects were not selected will be notified via email. Notification will be sent on April 12, 2010.
When must I submit progress reports and final reports?
Start of Research
Within 90 days following the awards ceremony, an email supporting the start up of the research project, with complete documentation, should be sent to Jill Freeman, Program Director, at jfreeman@medcononline.com.
Interim Progress Report
An Interim Progress Report must be submitted 6 months from the start up of the research project. The Interim Progress Report template must be downloaded to your computer to complete. Once completed, the report must be uploaded to the ENTELLIGENCE Web site. Click here for complete guidelines and the Interim Progress Report template.
Final Report
At the end of the grant period, a comprehensive final scientific report summarizing the project's accomplishments must be submitted to the ENTELLIGENCE Steering Committee. This report must include copies of any reprints, abstracts, and/or manuscripts submitted, published, or in press as a result of the research. Payment of the final grant installment is contingent upon approval of the final report by at least two Steering Committee members. All final reports must be submitted within 60 days of the termination date of the grant. Final reports are essential to the function of the award. How will the funding be disbursed?
Disbursement will be made as follows:
- 33% upon complete submission of paperwork (grant application agreement, IRB, W-9 Form from the institution, sample informed consent documents, if necessary, and IACUC, if necessary)
- 33% at the time of the interim report
- 33% after completion of the research and upon receipt of the final report and approval by at least two Steering Committee members
Can I request an extension of my research project?
The ENTELLIGENCE Young Investigators Award Program is a 12-month mentored grant. However, special consideration will be given by the Steering Committee to allow an additional period of time (maximum 12 months) to conduct research, but not to supply additional funding. Extensions will be considered on an individual basis only and are subject to final approval of the Steering Committee.
